Social Sharing with Hubbub!

Blogging Bites #56

Hey Reader!

How's your week going? I've been feeling very overwhelmed, but pushing through it!

I hope you've been enjoying the walkthroughs lately! Recently we've gone over Grow, Feast Modern Categories, and now Hubbub!

If you aren't familiar with Hubbub, it's a Wordpress plugin used for social sharing. When Mediavine created it they called it Grow Social (super confusing since Grow is a separate thing), but NerdPress recently took over and renamed it Hubbub! 😅

Right now there's a free version (Lite) and a paid version (Pro). I have Pro and use it for social sharing icons and hidden Pins/social images.

You can compare Lite vs Pro here. Pro's currently $34/year, which I think is so worth it! I'll show you how I'm using it below 😊

1️⃣ Social Sharing Icons

I'm a big fan of Hubbub's social buttons feature. I think it looks great and helps readers distribute my recipes across various social platforms.

I personally have mine set up so that they can be shared across Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter/X, Flipboard, and Yummly. There are even more options to choose from, but the Pro version is required if you want to add more than Facebook, Pinterest, and X.

The buttons can be added in various places, and the Pro version lets you customize them a bit!

Here's how I customized my text to say "Love it? Share it!":

And how I show the number of shares on the right side:

2️⃣ Hidden Pins & Social Images

Hubbub Pro also lets you set hidden images, titles, and descriptions on the back end so that you can control what people see on the front end when users share them!

If you need help cropping the photos for these hidden images, check out my Exporting Photos in Lightroom guide!

I add text to my hidden Pin in Canva before adding it to my blog post.

If you want to see all of my settings and a walkthrough of how I'm using Hubbub Pro, here's a quick video 👇

As always, these are just my personal settings so feel free to set it up and use it however's best for you!

Word on the street is that Andrew & his team are working on some cool new Hubbub features 😎 I'm very excited to see how they build it out!

Oh and don't forget to clear your cache if you aren't seeing your changes on the front end 😉

P.S. If you're still struggling with INP, NerdPress shared a few more things you can do to try to improve it in this recent article!

Happy blogging!
