How do you create new blog posts? Do you completely start from scratch every time or have a system in place to make things easy and efficient?

Today we're talking about reusable blocks! I've saved so much time since creating and utilizing a blog post template. I cannot recommend it enough!

What are reusable blocks?

Reusable Blocks is a WordPress tool that allows you to easily add a cluster of blocks to blog posts.

How to create a reusable block template:

Step 1. Click "Add New" from the Reusable Blocks menu.

Step 2. Add all of the blocks you want to include in every post.

Tips:

  • Instead of adding blocks from scratch, you are able to highlight multiple blocks from a previous blog post and copy/paste them into the Reusable Block post.
  • Style the text and blocks however you want them to look! Bold/italicize/underline words, change font or background colors, add links, etc. Everything will be saved in the template!
  • Group related blocks together. This will prevent ads from getting stuffed where you don't want them.

Step 3. Once you have all of your blocks added and customized, you're going to hit "Publish". This won't publish it to your blog - it will just save it in your Reusable Blocks!

Step 4. You should now see the saved template in your Reusable Blocks menu!

Note: If you decide you want to change something in your Reusable Block template after publishing it, you can go ahead and hit "Edit", make your changes, and then "Update"!

How to use a reusable block template:

Step 1. Now that we have created and published a reusable block, we can use it for new blog posts! Create a new blog post and add your title. Then, click the blue + icon in the top left corner to add a new block.

Click "Reusable" and then select the reusable block that you've created. This will insert the entire template into the body of your new blog post.

Step 2. You know how we grouped relevant blocks together in our template? Well, when you insert a reusable block, it groups everything together and makes editing them difficult. This extra step will fix that!

Click on the overlapping squares icon to convert the template to regular blocks (you may have to click on it twice).

Now you have all of your customized blocks added to your new blog post and can go through and fill in the content!

If you want to see this overview in action, here's a 3.5 minute video going over everything!

I hope you found this helpful and it allows you to create more awesome content in less time! As always, reach out with any questions/comments and let me know what you want to learn next!

Happy blogging!
